Scientific Study Report on Basic Income
A multilingual, interactive study report designed for journalists and researchers

I had the opportunity to support Mein Grundeinkommen, a German nonprofit organization focused on the topic of basic income, when they published the findings of their pilot project. The basic income pilot project was a scientific study in which 122 people received an unconditional sum of €1,200 every month for three years.
The central focus of the study was the fundamental question: How does a basic income affect people's lives?

Interactive web-based report
Data analysis, Data viz design, Development of interactive charts
D3.js, Figma, Kirby CMS

For the web-based findings report, I analyzed the data and then designed and developed over 20 custom, interactive, responsive, multilingual data visualizations across the topics of labour, self-determination, well-being, finances, and unexpected effects.
The target audience for this report was journalists and researchers. Therefore, I used familiar visualization types, such as line and bar charts. I customized chart elements, including axes and annotations, to highlight important details.

Technically, I created the charts using D3.js and embedded them then responsively in the existing Kirby CMS of the client.
I also created a large set of static graphics for the organization's blog posts with Figma, which were used to convey the main findings to the general public.
I especially enjoyed using the same data to create two very different types of data visualizations for two very different target groups: static graphics for the general public and interactive web-based charts for journalists / researchers. Considering what's important to each target group made me realize even more how differently people perceive data visualization.
